Known for her oozing sex appeal, the Canadian blonde hottie Elisha Cuthbert had been a prominent face in Canadian show business as an actress and model before she crossed over to Hollywood. Her biggest break was in 2001 when she played a high-profile role in the popular TV drama 24. Portraying the daughter of agent Jack Bauer, her fame status rose to great heights virtually overnight.
Born on November 30, 1982 in Calgary, Alberta, Elisha Ann Cuthbert in real life is the daughter of Kevin Cuthbert, an engineer and Patricia, a homemaker. She grew up together with her two siblings Jonathan and Lee Ann in Greenfield Park, close to Montreal, Quebec. In 2000, she graduated from Centennial Regional High School.
As a child, Cuthbert’s angelic looks quickly made her a candidate for modeling at age 11. It was not too long before she was modeling in advertisements for various kid’s clothing lines. After 3 to 4 years in modeling, she subsequently started to express interest in acting.
In 2006, she made her first professional acting debut, as an extra in a Canadian anthology, Are you Afraid of the Dark. Elisha Cuthbert’s cheery demeanor on-cam made her fit as a host of the show ‘Popular Mechanics for Kids’, where she worked alongside fellow performers Vanessa Lengies and Jay Baruchel. In this show, she performed field reporting, which impressed then-First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Her stint on Popular Mechanics for Kids greatly contributed to her profile, making it easier for her to have her foot in the door during auditions. Later on, she got used to the limelight. More so when she landed on her first feature role for the film ‘Dancing on the Moon’.
After her supporting movie role, it followed with more Canadian movies such as Believe, Mail to the Chief, Time at the Top, Airspeed, Nico, the Unicorn etc. She also starred in the Canadian TV movie ‘Lucky Girl’ that won her Gemini Award, the Canadian equivalent of Emmy. In this movie, she played the role of an obsessive teen gambler.
She moved to Los Angeles, California to concentrate on acting at the age of 17. Shortly after, she successfully auditioned for a major role on the FOX drama 24 where she played Kiefer Sutherland’s daughter Kimberly Bauer. The show instantly became a smash hit, which catapulted her to A-list status.
In 2003, Elisha Cuthbert appeared in two major Hollywood films Love Actually and Old School. Her next bold venture was the movie ‘The Girl Next Door’, when she played the role of a porn star that made friends with a shy high schooler. She did chunks of research for this character; she even interacted with real AV actresses.
Her role in ‘The Girl Next Door’ served as a launching pad for her cinematic career, receiving both criticisms as well as acclaims. She received a couple of MTV Movie Awards for her portrayal. Her subsequent movie projects were the horror movie House of Wax and an indie film The Quiet.
From 2007to 2009, Elisha Cuthbert made several movie projects and TV appearances. Amongst her film projects include Captivity, He Was A Quiet Man, My Sassy Girl, Guns and the Six Wives of Henry Lefay. She also reappeared on the eighth season of 24; currently, she is part of the ABC TV series Happy Endings as Alex Kerkovich.
