English actress Rebecca Mader was born in Cambridge, England. She first started acting on stage. This provided a good training ground for her to improve her skills.
Her striking beauty soon got her noticed and opened the way for her to become a model. She did a number of modeling projects before eventually signing up with Ford Models in New York. The actress has modeled for famous brands like Colgate, L’Oreal, and Wella Hair.
It is difficult not to notice an attractive and talented woman like Rebecca Mader. After modeling for some time, she started receiving offers for acting projects. She began to transition from modeling into acting by landing guest roles in some TV shows.
She appeared in soap operas like The Guiding Light and One Life to Live. She also guested in several TV series like Fastlane in 2002, Justice in 2005, and Law and Order: Trial by Jury also in 2005. In 2003, she was offered a regular role in the soap opera All My Children.
She turned it down, however. Instead, she chose to have recurring appearances in 17 episodes of All My Children for the role of Morgan Gordon. According to her, she did not accept the contract for a regular role so she can have more career opportunities.
Rebecca Mader appeared in the 2005 romantic comedy film Hitch and in the 2007 indie film Great World of Sound. In 2003, she was given a small role as a fashion editor in the movie The Devil Wears Prada. Although her appearance in this movie was very brief, she once again managed to catch public attention in a good way.
Her big break came in 2008 when she was cast as Charlotte Lewis in the successful TV series Lost. The role was first offered to actress Kristen Bell who reportedly turned it down. When Rebecca Mader auditioned for the part, the producers immediately liked her, and instead of her playing the role of an American, they changed the character into British as she suggested.
The actress admitted she did not follow the TV series that much. She watched previous Lost episodes on DVD so she could get more acquainted with it. She was to appear in just 8 episodes initially, but her appearance in the series stretched to 20 episodes.
She enjoyed playing the role of anthropologist Charloette Lewis, whom she described as a female Indiana Jones. Her character eventually died, as did many of the characters in Lost. However, this did not stop her career from taking off.
Rebecca Mader landed the role of Bob Wilton’s ex-wife Debora in the 2009 movie The Men Who Stare at Goats. The movie starred Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges. When asked about her transition from modeling to acting, she recounted that as an actress she felt lesser pressure to keep herself thin compared to how it was as a model, although as a Hollywood celebrity, she felt a constant pressure for her to appear perfect, which she does by going to the gym and doing yoga and Pilates.
